About

Hey, I’m TheMuteGuy.

I’m learning cybersecurity from scratch and writing about it as I go.

Not the polished version where everything works perfectly. The real version where I spend three hours debugging something, finally fix it, and then realize the solution was in the error message the whole time.

Why this blog exists:

Most cybersecurity content is either clickbait garbage or so technical that beginners bounce off it immediately. I wanted something in between — the kind of resource I wish I had when I started.

So I’m documenting everything. The tools I’m testing. The CTFs I’m attempting. The concepts that took forever to click. The 2 AM mistakes that somehow taught me more than any course.

Basically, I’m building the blog I needed six months ago.

How this blog works

I actually try the stuff I write about

If there’s a tutorial here, I walked through it myself. If I’m reviewing a tool, I install and use it. Sometimes things break. Sometimes I have no idea what I’m doing. That’s part of it.

I don’t skip the “obvious” parts

Remember when you didn’t know what a reverse shell was? Or how to set up a VM properly? I do. So I explain that stuff instead of assuming everyone already knows it.

I’m honest when I don’t know something

I’m not an expert. I’m learning this in real-time. If I’m unsure about something, I’ll say so. If I mess up, I’ll update the post. If there’s a better way, I want to know about it.

No gatekeeping

Cybersecurity has enough “you should already know this” energy. Not doing that here. Ask questions. Point out mistakes. We’re all figuring this out.

What’s actually here

CTF writeups: — My thought process, including the wrong paths I took before figuring it out

Tool stuff: — Reviews and experiments from someone who just installed them

Tutorials: — The kind that don’t skip setup steps or assume you know everything

Concept explanations:— Security terms without the jargon overload

Learning resources: — Honest takes on what’s actually helpful vs what’s overhyped

My journey: — What I’m working on, struggling with, and learning next

What’s not here

Me pretending I’m some veteran hacker (I’m not)

Sponsored reviews where I pretend everything’s amazing

That “you’re dumb for not knowing this” vibe

Corporate polish, where everything sounds the same

Rewritten versions of other people’s tutorials

Who this is for

You’re in the right place if you’re new to this, tired of tutorials that skip steps, or just want to follow someone else’s learning process.

This probably isn’t for you if you’re looking for advanced research or you get annoyed when someone admits they don’t know everything.

One thing about mistakes

I’m going to make them. When I do, I’ll fix the post and mention what I got wrong. If you catch something, tell me — I’m here to learn.

If you’re learning cybersecurity or just curious about it, stick around.

Let’s figure this out together.

If you’re learning cybersecurity or just curious about it, stick around. I’ll keep it real and never pretend I know more than I do.
